We're all going to die.

OK, I know everyone dies eventually, but it's now official - we're all going to die sooner than we might think - from bird flu. The news channels are just reporting that DEFRA have confirmed the South American parrot that died in quarantine here in the UK had the potentially deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu.

I know I'm just being pedantic - there's nothing these news cahnnels like more than scare mongering, especially that damn Sky News (I hate Sky News). But this is just the sort of thing that disaster movies revel in - a quirky little virus that kills a couple of people in Asia then spreads (usually to America) on some cargo ship and then kills loads of people before some hunk in a HAZMAT suit comes along to save the day.

Have a happy Christmas - it may be your last!

Update: It should be noted that because the parrot was in quarantine when it died, the UK's disease-free status remains unchanged.
